The next day he arose and took his son with him, and went to walk along the seashore. And where he saw dulse and sea girdle he made a ship, and out of the seaweed and dulse he made cordwain, and put gold colour on them. And then he and the boy sailed to the crowded harbour of Caer Aranrhod. They began to fashion shoes and to stitch them. Then they were seen from the caer, but he took away their semblance, so that they would not be recognized.
And when it was known that there were shoemakers there, and that they were colouring cordwain in gold, Aranrhod sent messengers with the measure of her foot to the shoemakers. And Gwydion fashioned the shoes, yet not to the measure, but bigger. ÔThese are too big,Õ she said, Ôlet him make some smaller than these.Õ He made others smaller by far than her foot, and sent them to her. When the messengers returned to the ship he said ÔI will not fashion shoes for her until I see her foot.Õ And that was told her.
